A Letter To Parents About Masks

April 1, 2021

Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe we are already into 4th term and over three quarters of the way through the school year.  What a journey it has been!

We want to personally thank you for your patience as we navigated through this challenging pandemic.  It hasn’t been easy dealing with outbreaks of COVID-19, quarantines, temporary closures, and public health orders.

When we opened our schools in August, we had two goals.  The first was to try to keep everyone healthy and safe.  The second was to do everything possible to keep students in-class.  This required a tremendous effort on everyone’s part!

One of the most challenging aspects has been the requirement to wear face coverings.  The mask mandate was issued by the Utah Department of Health, and as a public entity, we are required to comply with these types of orders.

Governor Spencer Cox recently signed a bill (HB294) that lifts Utah’s statewide mask mandate on April 10.  However, it does not exempt schools or large gatherings, so we will still be required to wear masks for the remainder of the school year.

We understand many people, including our students and staff, have grown mask weary, and we look forward to the day when we no longer have to wear masks while at school.  When we return from Spring Break on April 12, we will only have a month and a half left until the end of the school year.  We’ve made it this far wearing masks and we can certainly make it until the end of May.  The most important thing is that we are in school!

Everything we’ve done this year has helped keep our schools open and kids in class.   We’re proud to say we’ve been able to offer in-person learning in our district when so many students around the country have been unable to physically attend school during the pandemic.

So, let’s stay the course and before we know it, hopefully mask wearing will be a thing of the past!  Thank you for your understanding!
